Visual Basic 2008 (as well as Visual C++ 2008) have many changes and improvements, so the code directly imported from Visual Studio 6 won't work. The best solution would be rewriting the applications in the Visual Basic 2008 (or Visual C++ 2008) environment. The Upgrade Wizard in Visual Studio 2008 can convert the VB6 projects, but most likely it won't convert all the code the way you want, so you will spend a lot of time just fixing it. So the best solution (in my opinion) would be rewriting the applications in the new environment. Maybe you will also need some time to learn the changes that the .NET environment brought.

VB6 code cannot be compiled in VS2008 and you will have to rewrite your code in VB.NET.
However, VS2008 does support compilation of VC++ 6.0 programs so it should compile in VS2008.
If it doesn't, check the options and ensure that the directories for various libraries are correct.
