I hate using 1 and 1. I have a few clients on 1 and 1 - it falls WAY down on my list of preferred hosts.

My favorite paid host is HostMonster.com.... I've used it for years and have had virtually no problems whatsoever.

The ABSOLUTE worst, however, is Webmasters.com - nothing but headache after headache after headache.

Just install a spell checker into your web browser.

Also, avoid capitalizing words mid-sentance unless it's a proper verb.

After a few years of messing around with various shared hosting setups, I switched to Slicehost and never looked back. It's been awesome.

Slicehost was looking good, until I got to the part about no ssh & no FreeBSD.

No ssh? I'll have to SSH into my slices and let them know or something tongue.gif (Seriously, though - all my slices came with SSH ready to go right at the start.)

Unfortunately, you are right about FreeBSD - I took a look at the list of available OSes, and it's still not on the list.
