I have just started assembler 8086 programming in my computer science class, we have just been creating basic programs. We have been set the task of creating a calculator, that should be fun, the problem is that we are using emu8086 it is only a evaluation version. Is there an open source program that emulates assembler for windows

Moved to Other Languages.

I have used masm to write in assembly, it's fairly straight forward to use. There are also nasm and tasm for linux, mac, etc processing environments.

I use the same as Auzzie... its wonderful!

If i were you, I would start out with whatever you are using in class, and then more to a different tool and IDE once you are familiar and comfortable with the language. I learn ASM next year in Microcomputers, and I plan to use whatever the prof tells us to.

I've used MASM & nasm.

While both are free, there was some trickery to getting a free linker for MASM from another Microsoft Product.

I prefer to use FASM or NASM since you can Assemble both with real lot Code changes. And thus Debugging is great.
I'd advice you to build your Toolkit.
Pick ONE assembler (NASM, FASM, TASM, MASM, RADASM anyone)
Pick ONE edit (WinASM, NotePad++, VIM, Notepad, MSWord, VisualStudio, Geany anyone)
Pick one Debugger (IDA, Must! wink2.gif or if you are a cheap one use Olly)

And set it all up. whatsthat.gif

I use FASM, GeAny and IDA. In Linux and Windows.

Hope you have fun with this all whatsthat.gif (I know I do with ASM)
