So I get this message on my special little corner of the XP world "Limited or no connectivity
You might not be able to access the Internet or some network resources. This problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer."

I reseated the card to see if that was the problem (being that it wasn't seated to well as it was) but of course that didnt help. The only way this problem fixes itself it seems is if I reset the computer. Can someone please assist me? It's getting old resetting the computer. Thanks SO much.

Do you get the same effect if you boot into safe mode with networking?

I am in safe mode at the moment and, so far the internet is fine. Its been like 5-8 minutes. So, what is it that I need to be worried about doing while in safe mode?

safe mode changed nothing; in the past i had this computer and another one on a router and never had this problem. i hooked the router up and that fixed nothing. i even made a static ip...i stopped receiving the error msg or whatever BUT i dont have a connection w/ making the static

i had a similar problem and it was just two computers knocking into eachother. any conflicting ip's or something along the lines?

Safe mode will boot with only the bare requirements of Windows, & networking mode will load the network drivers.

It's important, because it helps rule out spyware/adware, or hijacked services. That isn't to say it couldn't still be the problem, but now you know the problem is most likely with Windows.

If it were me, I'd repair the OS, but I'm getting quicker & quicker to jump to that resolution. Is this computer wireless, or on the lan? Is it possibly to try the other? Is it possible to put it on the lan, & turn wireless off the router? Is it possible to hook up to just your dsl/cable modem?

Well I haven't tried anything different since the last post. The knockoff's are more far between. Like a couple of hours or something. It also seems like sometimes w/ more activity the knockoffs happen. The other computer I am actually having to replace the motherboard on the dell xps 400 series, but im not sure WHICH 400 it is so, it could be a while. I have used all the serial numbers on it and not able to find anything. I could use advice on that too (other than burn it cause its dell). As far as just the cable modem, I have unhooked the router and its the same story. So I have just left it as is. Its not 100% but a lot better than earlier. Any more advice would be greatly appreciated. And, the computer is not wireless and the lan is of course optional.
