Ok, so yesterday we boot up our xbox 360 to see it giving us an E73 error and one light on the red ring of death...apparently there is something wrong with the ethernet!

So, after reading the internet we do the towel trick (wrap it in towels and apparently it resets itself after overheating) and bingo, it starts working again after letting it cool down!

Therefore, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the xbox...if you search there are millions of people with the same problem...how crummy is that! There is nothing wrong with it!

Turns out, we can't send ours back for this particular fault but if you get 3 red lights then you can send it back to germany and they send you a new one.

Anyone else had similar problems? icon_down.gif

My xBox has very loud fans... I am currently awaiting their replacements in the mail.

Also, as I am in Canada, I cannot purchase things from the XBL store because my account is American. Wtf.

So, no new COD:5 maps for me until i go home next month

Fallout 3 - The Pitt DLC was re-released yesterday - I did not grab it because of the issues I heard about with the last one with corrupted files.

I am itching to play that. My fans are also fairly loud, but they don't interfere with anything. I would like to buy the bigger hard drive.

My fans are really loud.

One time when I was playing Fallout 3, I thought the fan was the Geiger counter.

Also when playing Oblivion, it is kind of a constant drone, like something's loose, so I'm probably going to have to get that fixed. Had the RRoD back in October. Hurray X-Box.

Am I understanding correctly that this E-73 or whatever it is called is not covered by the warranty?
Well my X-box warranty is up soon anyways but still.

*Knock on wood* I've yet to have a single issue with my 360, the only reason mine is loud is because I have an inter cooler for it (does wonders for dispersing heat let me tell you what). I get so tired of all these "Oh Microsoft sucks because my 360 is broke" threads, get real people, if you think things can't break then welcome to reality smile.gif

I have three broken ones here at my house. Since they broke does that mean Apple sucks too (well I"m sure we all know my feelings on Apple lol)

I can't argue about Apple - I feel the same with exception to the iPod, I am just making that point.

Microsoft has a habit of putting buggy and unfinished products into the marketplace.

- I <3 my 360, but it is overpriced. I don't think a firmware update should cause my product to up and die. I paid $300.00 for something that works, not a half ass product that destroys hours of data stored on my hard drive.

Actually surprised the towel trick worked with this error. The towel trick worked on my when I got the 3RROD, but then I took out the xClamps and drilled some new mounting holes to seat the heat sinks correctly. The clamps were causing a warping of the chip and thus the connection was breaking somehow and by overheating caused the warping to remake the connections.

This is what I was told was happening and is why I am surprised the trick actually worked on the Ethernet problems. If this is wrong then somebody post the correct thing because since i have did the xclamp replacement I get no errors anymore.

Personally my experiences with the Xbox console are only positive. And just a recommendation - never do the tricks you see on the Internet that are supposed to solve some of the console's defects - most likely those won't (in most of the cases) and you have a risk to void the warranty. If you see that there are some problems, contact Microsoft. This will save you time, efforts and money.

Void your warranty for using an external cooler?!?!??!??!?!

And how the heck will they find out you even use one? It doesn't modify the Xbox at all.

Yes, simply because this device is not Microsoft Certified Xbox Accessory.

It doesn't modify the Xbox, but the experts at the service center will easily see where specifically the cooler was placed - this can be detected by many factors, including the way dust is placed on the ventilation holes or specific connection signs, like scratches. Yes, they look at these details. Considering that they work in that field for many years, they will easily find whether such a cooler was placed or not.

In several cases connecting a third-party device will cause the system to either have power supply problems or destroy a component by a short circuit. This makes sense - what if a specific console became broken because of such a device? Then the warranty does not apply any more.
