So I was talking with a client recently and told them that they were using too many keywords in their ad, but then I thought, "WAIT, I HAVEN'T TESTED THIS YET." When applying for Google Adwords classified it gives the tip - "It is best to use 20 or less keywords." Has anyone seen this to be more or less usefull, do you have any Google Adword best practices?

When you create an ad group, you should try to keep the number of keywords pretty low. I stick to 2-10 keywords myself usually and some of my campaigns have as many as 50, but it's rare.

The problem with putting more than 20 keywords in an Ad Group is your quality score will probably be poor for most as your Ad Text won't have all those keywords in it. It's best to try to separate as many ad groups as possible and just put a few keywords in each. This will increase quality score by allowing you to have better ad text and better monitoring.
