I'm getting a complex!
Posted 20 April 2009 - 07:37 AM
So I've been getting super aggrivated with Java recently, and found it's boring me, and doesn't even hold my interest anymore. It seems I'm losing my interest in programming altogether! Realizing this, I started to reteach myself C++ (I forgot most of the syntax since learning Java), but I'm retaking my Java in the summer and I don't want to forget what Java I do know. What is a girl to do?

System.out.print(""); != cout << "";

Locke probably meant that the syntax, not the code constructs, were similar.
IE: the placement of ( ) { } [ ] ; etc.
I wish I could make myself learn Java. The last time I tried I couldn't get the tutorial's getting started app to work and I gave up. I'm sure it was me, but I even asked on the forums and didn't get much help. Mind you, this was before I found DIC.

If programming is getting under your skin, then walk away. Take a break for a few weeks.
That's precisely what I did. I wasn't helping on DIC for like 2 weeks...didn't code at all. Now I'm back with a vengeance!
And yes. What I said was correct. The syntax is very much the same. The commands are different, because you can overload operators.
That's one feature I really wish Java had...overloading operators.

Don't worry about it.. programming is not about memorizing languages!

I'm amused with the statement about being bored with a language. Any language is a tool and should be less of a focus than the actual project or concept you are bringing out of the green glowey lines of falling characters.
I do suggest taking a break though. I alternate between working on my videogame and drawing. That and pwning n00bs in ZombiePanic.

You play Zombie Panic?
Dude that is awesome.
I play every now and then, but
I prefer Day of Defeat: Source.

I haven't really programmed in forever. It just seems that you can't do anything in Java! I'm gonna make my own language, dammit!!!

Lots of languages use C as a mediator.
