Page Focus

Posted 31 January 2005 - 11:27 AM

I need some help with setting page focus.

Situation:
I have a page of links. Someone clicks on Link A which opens new window. They minimize Link A page to redisplay my link page and click on Link B. At this point I want Link A window to reopen on top with Link B page displayed.

If I own Link A and B pages I can accomplish by placing this java snippet in <head> section of Link A and B pages...

<script LANGUAGE="Javascript">
<!-- Begin
focus();
// End -->
</script>

How do I accomplish this if I do not own the pages that I want to link to?

I would appreciate any assistance

Just to ensure I have the situation correct:

You own Page 1. It is a page of links. When a user clicks on a link, you open page2. If a user were to click on another link from page 1, you want page 2 to display that data, is that correct?

If so, you'll need a function at the top of page 1 that keeps a reference to the window opened by the first click. when another link from page 1 is clicked, you'll set the url location of page 2 to the new link. It's not a problem if page 2 is not yours, because window 2 is.

Click here fo a good article. you'll be especially interested in the section entitled 'Maintaining a Handle'.
