My first was Learning Perl - it's good and dog-eared now, for all that I never open it anymore.

A hard bound book on qbasic and adventure games (think text based zork). I used that to make a videogame for my Computer Merit badge in boyscouts. I don't think I ever returned it.

The book of hard knocks. Really though I just used all programming tutorials to learn for the longest time, I think my first programming book was just some shitty C++ book like "C++ Programming For Absolute Beginners."

Tis indeed. Haven't had much time to do much programming at all lately so I didn't get past the first few chapters.
