This piracy is actually opportunity. Physical media is so old and everyone wants to just have the world's of entertainment handed to them on a silver platter from the Internet. I don't pirate that much, and lately, I haven't pirated at all. But I don't hate the pirates. What I hate is companies like the MPAA and RIAA using terrorism to try and control people.
There are some companies that just don't get it, and some that do. It should be obvious when you look at them. Piracy is something to take advantage of. I'm not just throwing the terrorism word around, slogans like "You can click but you can't hide" and their attempts to violate peer to peer networks try to scare people.
They can't get everyone, and this "torrent" is getting bigger and harder to stop. So they try and make extreme cases by suing all they can to try and make examples to invoke fear. Then, there are the companies that are starting to take this into their hands and make some serious money while growing a fanbase at the same time.
Take NEXON for example. Is MapleStory a fun game? It doesn't change the fact that it's free and NEXON makes a ton of money (millions in capital off of merchandise that isn't even real). Why watch illegal videos of South Park when you can just watch it for free in 1280p no matter what OS you have online. I was at my friends house and they had 1500KiloBITS Internet, and I was able to make the video stream match the same resolution as my monitor. They see that people Googled South Park episodes, so they decided to be the ones to provide the video and get their fair share of profit.
I think people realized you can make a lot of money off of streaming video when companies were suing YouTube, yet saw how much they were claiming damages for and decided to just host the content themselves.

I totally agree with WolfCoder.
I see it this way.
If this world were good and bought all the games. People would go on reviews and comments of what other people think solely for deciding what games to buy.
I have had tons of games (that was pirated) that I have never heard of that I quite enjoyed.
If I play a game and I enjoy it , I would want a original Copy.
If everyone buyed, games those type of games will never see a market.
And another example is World of Warcraft and Counterstrike. Look at its fan base. Do you think that fan base grew solely on original game owners? Dont think so.
So yeah Wolfcoder has got a point! Well said!

My opinion is this.
People who pirate software are stealing. They are not damaging the author financially or physically, but they are stealing something someone spent WEEKS making.
I've done my share of pirating. I've downloaded Photoshop, Visual Studio, etc. But whenever I can afford something I'll pay for it.
For instance, I could've pirated Left 4 Dead, but I chose to buy it instead.
You see, I know I'm a pirate and I know what I'm doing. It just pisses me off when assholes pull the "fair use" card. Suck my balls, you're stealing. Plain and simple.

Yes, he's a mooch. If the puddinlover really wanted to be a member of this site, they would post their opinions & discussions here, & not point to another site asking our opinion. It's a sad way of trying to be involved with both Dream In Code, as well as leech off our members for traffic.

Either way you need steam and/or a CD key to play online. So the purpose is....?

I've often thought about making a movie. If I did, after shooting every scene, I would get the cast to dress as pirates, complete with peg legs and fake parrots, and shoot the scene again, removing all lines, and replacing them all with things like:
'Yaaaaarrrrr!!!'
'Shiver me timbers!'
and so on.
Once we are finished, release the normal version on dvd, and release the 'pirate' version on the internet

I saw a Twitter bot that does exactly that.
It posts the same thing that some actor posts, but in Pirate talk. For the life of me I can't remember who it was.

You are a mediocre pirate!
Of course you can play a cracked server where almost 3000 play. I liked the game so much I bought it three weeks ago. It really is a great game. I'm considering buying Team Fortress 2.
