Hello all,

I am a student and trying to get experience with anything that can be published on the internet (trying to build a portfolio), so I was thinking let me do a blog first. I started reading up on blogs. I noticed it says to use a blog application, but I have been learning to do web pages and code…why do I need a different application.

Can someone educate this novice eager student?

Blog applications consist of a database, some php code to interact withthe database, and HTML/CSS for the front end. That is all they are really talking about (though it is possible to purchase some blog applications which just link to a pre-existing blog and allow you to post to it from your desktop).

If you are looking into using a premade one blogger, and a few others out there are free.

Wordpress is another good free blog. I believe there is a program that lets you write your blog on you computer and upload it to Wordpress.

Yup, you can also do it from their CP, etc... I like WP. I just installed it on my site and have been experimenting, so far so good.

wordpress is a great bloggin application if your interested in getting started, you could program your own but then you would have to learn some heavy duty php and mysql so your better of with something like wordpress. There are tons of downloadable themes and its really easy to make your own theme if you just look at how everything is put together.
