well i usually start coding by including an iostream. but on a more serious note im going to assume that you are taking a computer science course at your university if so what are you interested in programming and does your university offer co-op programs, its a great way to get your foot in the door.

dido. I originally started coding because I was impressed by the things my father could make the Commodore 64 do.
NoBrain, the smiles are fun to use, but show some restraint. The word to smiley ratio should be higher in most posts, lol.

Ah yes the C64 - I got my intro to Basic with the C64.
You are right William_Wilson it is just amazing what you can do with a computer and once the confidence level is attained you start taking on more and more advanced problems.
It is a good feeling to write applications/programs to solve your everyday problems.

I wanted to code before I even owned a computer.
I had a Unix scripting book before I had Unix (or Linux), as I had my C/C++ book prior to having a compiler.

I program because I must.
Maybe that is a little dramatic but really I am very unhappy when I can't program something (well math makes a good stand in). For me it is passion.

I program for the lulz.
Actually, it's more like a downward spiral that got me into it and keeps me doing it. I write something with hardcoded data.... Then I write something to load ghetto-data-files for data.... Then I spend sleepless nights working out how to write an XML parser and Lua.... Or I write something with graphic output as characters..... Then I try working with ncurses..... Then I try working with SDL.... Then I try working with OpenGL. It just goes deeper and deeper, and I just get dragged down in it for the sake of what awesomeness I can make next. XD
