Windows 7

Posted 19 May 2009 - 08:45 AM

I didn't see anything about it yet.

I heard a lot of good things about it. Provided that my mom doesn't cancel my internet, do you think I should install it? I know it's still beta, but I heard it's just so much better than Vista. What do you think about this new OS?

I love it, but uninstalled it until the retail comes out. I find something.. unsettling.. about using a release candidate as my primary OS.

I would suggest installing it on a blank HD.. play with it.. but do not rely on it.

Better than Vista? It's very similar. Thankfully MS is coming out with it this year or I would be rolling Vista now.

I wouldn't install it as your main OS just yet.
If you want to play with it I would suggest either a second hard drive / partition.
And dual boot.
I initially tried it out as a virtual machine in Virtual-Box but it'll have no hardware graphic support.
Also Virus Software is bit flakey. The one recommanded crashed my machine. So used KIS2009.

Still not ready for me to upgrade to it, from Vista.

I like it. I will probably put it on my computer (I have winxp64 and it has issues... not really OS issue so much as support issues with software. I can't even hook my iPod to my computer)

When it's officially released, will Vista required device drivers be able to be upgraded? My biggest concern is how Microsoft stuck a lot of unhappy customers with $300 laptops. I've had a few customers whom didn't do their homework, & thought they were going to be able to get a cheap laptop & install XP over it, only to find out they got stuck with Vista. I would love to be able to tell them there is hope.

Though I wouldn't count on any time frame that Microsoft offers. I remember when Long Horn only had another year to be released. 3 years later we had XP.

I actually use it in combination with WAMP Server 2 in order to perform small updating jobs with a PoS computer I have laying around for a database hosted on another server (I didn't do this on that server because I used to have infinite loops and the owner of the server got mad at me~). Windows 7 requires very few resources, which is good because that computer doesn't have much.

It's awesome and I can't wait for an official version to be released.

Yours,
Shane~

It's okay, I haven't found anything must have about it, it feels like what Vista should have been to be honest. A new OS, but nothing special.

I installed in on VM (VPC 2007)

Some of the screenshots remind me of macs. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing. I probably won't get it unless I get a new computer, but as long as it works like Vista only improved, I don't see any reason not to get it. The only real problem I've had with Vista is nVidia's lack of drivers for my mobile GPU in Vista.

i have installed Win 7 Beta (just downloading RC1 atm).

it still has a lot of bugs, games crash, soundproblems, simple windows functions bug sometimes, etc...

you can use it, if you have nerves for it. so there are actually no major bugs or problems that i had since i installed it as my primary OS (february)

cant wait for the release :D
------------
XP just gets to old and Vista is making to much problems and is slow

Installed in on Virtual PC 2007 and surprisingly I didn't have any problems with both the Beta version and the first Release Candidate. Sometimes it can slow down a bit, but that's mostly because it is running in a virtual environment rather than directly on my machine.

Well I would not expect a service pack or multiple bug patches for the free versions (Beta and RC1). It was a good practice so far to wait for the first service pack before getting the release version, however, this mostly applies to enterprise environments with major updates. I installed Vista right the day it was released, and it worked absolutely fine since. Speaking about me, I will install Windows 7 probably in the first few weeks after it appears if not earlier, as it has some really neat features I really enjoy using.

I love it, and cant wait for it to finish the beta and RC candidates. It's an OS I will switch to once it's retail (dual-boot with it now and have found zero compatibility issues or had any major issues with it). I downloaded the initial beta, then the new RC when it came out so I've been playing with it since it was available.

I like the fact that it has Vista's look (Love the Aero(sp) look) but is much faster than Vista, and doesn't seem to require as many resources to run it right.

Just my 2 :)

I HATE VISTA. I use XP service pack 3. This looks like it might be good once it comes out, but I would leave it till then.
