Being a software engineer (C#), what certification are a must?

Posted 30 May 2009 - 06:11 PM

Hey there,

I'm 1.5 years away from my degree from college and I have no idea what certification tests I should take.

What are some good certifications I should be looking for being a C# software engineer?

Thanks for the information guys. All the best.

There is no a 'must' certification. It all depends on what path you want to choose. Take a look here for more information:

http://www.microsoft...ap/default.mspx

The ones I am preparing for are MCAD (Microsoft Certified Application Developer) and MCSD (Microsoft Certified Solution Developer).

I can't find the MCAD or MCSD certifications on any of those roadmaps. I read somewhere about 3 month ago, that both tests would be discontinued in May 09, is that what happened?

Ive worked in large and small corps but most of them havent cared about your certs. Your school helps out a lot if the people that are hiring went to the same school. Usually when hiring programers there is a hard interview followed by a internal test.

No certification particular certification is prerequisite to landing a job.

If you want to be a software engineer a degree in computer science or computer engineering would be enough. Experience is also another thing that employers will look at, so getting a summer internship would go a long way.

When you are an intern what is expected from you? I mean, do you recieve pay (doubt it)?

Are you expected to program things? Are you expected to just see how the business works?

Thanks for the information guys :D

I suppose it depends, i have a paid internship and I'm expected to estimate, plan, program, and document without much more help than anyone else - it's certainly not like I'm just assisting . But I've been here a while, they started me off doing simple bug fixes, then moved me on to more involved projects.

MCAD and MCPD are still in the roadmap in the Web/Windows developer branch.
