Port forwarding a Virtual Machine

Posted 02 June 2009 - 02:14 PM

Hi there. ive got another port forwarding problem.

Im running a vista 64bit, and have installed microsoft virtual server 2007 with xp loaded on to it.

I running a server which needs ports 7000, 7100 and 7200 forwarded.

how do i go about forwarding these ports on my virtual machine, so i can run clients from my vista os, and also allow people to access it externally (not neccessary but wld b nice)

the virtual adapter im using is set to NAT, and it allows me to connect my virtual machine to the internet instantly.

but the ip which my virtual machine is using isnt allowed to be forwarded (probably because its going through my vista os ip)

the virtual machine's ip is 192.168.131.65 internal, and 87.xxx.xx.xx external

any help on solving this would be great.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Log onto the GUI of your router, & forward the defined ports to the internet ip address of 192.168.131.65, then on the client Virtual Machine, make certain that any firewall or security software will allow those ports to remain open, allowing connection requests to come in. Really, no different. As long as your VM has it's own ip on the subnet, you would treat it the same.

ive just realised that my vm has that same external ip as the actual machine.

ive tried forwarding the ports to 192.168.131.65, but my router says its not a valid ip. ive also tried port forwarding them to my actual computers ip (192.168.0.2) but that didnt work either.

theres no firewall on my vm, and the firewall on my actual machine should be allowing them through.
