file dialog

im supposed to modify a file so that the first line of the file is read in and appears in the text field instead of the name of the file.
can anyone help me with this pls.
ive tried using bufferedreader but im gettin errors.

Read into what? And where is the text field? Can you post the code you have to give us a better idea?
