Portfolio Website

My Site

Give me some constructive criticism

I am looking for an entry level development job. I have never designed a website before and in no way consider myself a designer. I wanted this site to be simple.

I actually kind of dig the design. I'm not sure how I feel about the gray background - on the one hand, it helps keep the user focused on your content, which is good. On the other, I can't decide if I like it with the blue.

One thing that I did notice is that when I click on links, I have no way to get back to your homepage. Perhaps you could make the banner area clickable, or add a link that says something like "Go Home" at the bottom of each page, or add a link to home in your navigation bar.

Yeah, a way to get back home is on the top of my list of things to fix. I will probably get that going today or tomorrow.

I really like the idea of the setup. Maybe change the gray in the back to some sort of gradient.

I like the the site. I looked at your resume... I dont know about having your job at KFC on there. It doesnt have anything to do with a software job so you might want to leave it off. Thats just my opinion though

Thanks for the comments guys.

thursdayniac- I thought a lot about keeping KFC on there or discarding it. Ultimately I decided to keep it for two reasons:

1) It explains what I have done through high school and college.

2) I have been there for quite a long time and if nothing else maybe the person looking at my resume might recognize I am loyal and do not jump around from job to job.

After I get some experience in the industry it is coming straight off my resume though.

Layout is nice, not too sure about the color scheme though, it seems a little off. The programming concept isn't something that I've seen before, makes the site unique in my mind. You might want to change the rollover on the links. With a visual imparement it is a little hard to read. Maybe have the floating pages start at the top of the client window as well. The home icon at the bottom of the pages is an interesting touch.

Okay I'm looking at a couple different color schemes. I have one where the banners are black. So the color scheme would be background grey, banners black, and content white. I kind of like that one.

I also have one where I just made the blue darker, I also like that one.

The black and grey seems like it would be cool

Here is a visual aid for the black-grey-white scheme. Just pretend the button bar is black.

The black could work. If you are writing something on the black, don't go too dark with the font. Just a suggestion. :)

Oops, you posted before I replied. Looking better. :)

The color scheme is better. If you are going to put the WC3 links on the site you might want to upgrade to XHTML 1.0 and the latest CSS standards. Otherwise I wouldn't put them on, that is just my opinion.
