Vector Illustrations

Posted 25 April 2005 - 08:37 AM

I'm interested in trying my hand at creating vector illustrations and I was wondering what program yall thought was best. I've heard CorelDraw or Illustrator. I currently use Paint Shop Pro and create pixel graphics but I'd like to get into the vector graphics. Any suggestions?

I think illustrator is probably a good starting point. There are a couple folks here that have posted some pretty cool vector pieces they've done, check out this thread for one of the girls here who is using illustrator.

She's online often on AIM and if her info isn't in her profile, I'd be happy to ask if it's ok for you to contact her.

Thanks so much for the information. I checked out the thread and looked at her profile but she doesn't list any messengers, only email. If it's not too much trouble, I'd really appreciate if you would ask her if I could contact her, if you're sure you don't mind. I'd really like to ask her some questions before I commit to a program and attempt this on my own. Of course I could email her or send her a pm if you'd rather I do that. Just let me know. Thanks again

I'd go illustrator. There are a variety of programs, and now that Adobe has purchased Macromedia, Illustrator will become even more popular. I'd advice staying away from Corel products. I started off with Corel draw and photopaint, and when I realized I needed to make the transfer, it was hard.

I put her in touch with ashleysucks from that thread I linked to, I guess they exchanged information.

GeekGirl, post what you come up with, would love to see some more vector art around here... always amazes me.

Yes, and I meant to thank you for putting me in touch with her. We talked last night and found out all I needed to know.

I'm afraid I won't be coming up with anything anytime soon. I had no idea the software was so expensive. *yikes* I'm still considering it though. The only images I've drawn have been pixel graphics and this is a whole other level... I'd like to get into it eventually but there are many other things I need to learn that won't cost me a thing... I think I'm going to have to put this on the back burner for a bit.

I really appreciate your help though.

No problem! Nicole (the girl you talked to) is an awesome person and quite impressive when it comes to graphics. She's a good contact to have.

If budget is a problem for even one, I doubt she'll be getting both. Yes, of course we all know you can get cracks, but you appreciate the software and spend alot more time with your work when you actually had to pay for it. Best of luck geekgirl.
