C++ ERROR

Posted 03 May 2005 - 06:25 PM

when ever i run C++ i get an error that says "ERROR spawning cl.exe"
i dont know what this means. also i am runing it off a CD, and it only has C++ files on it. and this error always appears now matter what i write. ex.
#include <iostream.h>
main()
{
     cout <<"hello";
}
return 0;

also i when i try to install a 'burned' copy of visual studio 6.0 i get two error messages both i am confused about. the first one happens when i put the cd of VS 6.0 in my computer a message pops up and says " The Installation Wizard has detected a potentially conflicting version of Visual Studio 6.0 product on your machine. One or both products may not work after installing this Product
do you wish to continue?"
and i can't find any other version on my computer or any MSDEV programs .alsowhen i say yes and the the install wizards appears and i start the installation. then the second message comes up. " C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Micrsoft Windows aplications. Choose 'close' to terminate the application
Close
Ignore"

No matter which button i push ignore or close it will still close and end the installation. i have a windows XP service pack 2 built by e-machines and have 12 GB left to use. the same CD works on my laptop. which is a windows 98, very old toshiba. not floppy drive and has service pack 1 for it.

please help me if you can

Thanks in advance Artaniz Avi

probably something dirty with the install, but

#include <iostream.h>
main()
{
    cout <<"hello";
}
return 0;

won't work anyhow, the return needs to be within the function. probably not the main problem though.

Moved to software...

cl.exe is the compiler...the error you are getting idicates that the compiler is not where the IDE is looking for it. You'll have to ensure that your pathing is correct.

It might still think that there is a previous version
on your computa.
Try making sure it is gone completly before
trying once more.

I have this problem all the time.

Make sure your hidden files are gone too.
Delete anything having to do with it.
