Also check out a new framework: Moai SDK
http://getmoai.com/
Currently works for Android, iOS, Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
It's a C++ engine that uses Lua for scripting. It's free and open-source.
It looks promising but I hope that they support more platforms in the near future.

There is a great book I just bought and I suggest everyone buy and read it before you start graphics programing. This book is for the serious developers that are truley dedicated to rendering.
Real Time Rendering, Third Edition
Now if you are a beginner, I suggest you buy a book on linear algebra and real and understand that first.

I've been struggling with learning game architectures. This paper by Michael Doherty might be quite a few years old, but it managed to give me some direction that I didn't seem to find elsewhere on the net.
A Software Architecture for Games
I believe it is a component based design?

I found this online book for Game Programming. So far of what I've read, it's really good.
Game Coding Complete
The only problem is, with the 'next' and 'previous' hyperlinks. They point to a page that is not found on the server, which by the way, the server is based in Russia or the owner is just Russian ( Click the 'next' hyperlink to see that I'm talking about). Don't worry though, the text is English
