How about we take this one step further and have a deposit for resources created by DIC members, things they don't mind sharing with the community to help with game creation. Sprite sheets, sound effects and 3D models etc.
I think this would be great

@stayscrisp This feature was already discussed by the team so it currently is in a decision-taking stage. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I think it would be nice to also include a list of books that would help with this subject matter. Some examples would be
A Theory of fun by Raph Koster
Game design (second) by Bob Bates
Rules of Play by Katie Salen
Designing virtual worlds by Richard Bartle
Character Development and Storytelling for Games by Lee Sheldon
Artificial Intelligence for Games by Ian Millington
How GPUs Work
Memory Management - Algorithms And Implementation In C-C++ by Bill Blunden

ZSNES and other emulators have a snapshot function so you can capture sprites, this is quite hard as you have to separate the background from the sprite.
Another method is to use an emulator that uses layers and hide some layers making the sprite rip slightly easier, some emulators also have a pause and increment frame option to capture walk/attack animations.
Using something such as Mac OSX' Grab or simply Print Screen to the clipboard in Windows would work just as well

Or you could remake it your self by zooming in and figuring it out pixel by pixel...

I will add Dark GDK to the list but The Game Creators seems to be mostly commercial products and we are trying to go with only free resources.
