Portfolio Site

Post icon  Posted 06 July 2009 - 08:32 AM

http://project3287.h....net/index.html

this is a portfolio site for our development group
we've been studying tutorials for 2 weeks right now

most of the writings are in turkish so ill give the translation of the menu here
home page, boards, links, crew, experience , projects

dont have a name right now for our group so just wrote "project" and me and my friend's jersey no's until we find a good name.
there will be a banner where that red heading is just couldnt decide what kind of banner..

we changed the site a bit after we got ok from the validator and didnt fix the new pages right now the way they should be

need suggestions..

is this going good?

thinking about making the link buttons at the menu with photoshop and animate them a little with js (only problem our photoshop knowledge is minimal)

what other stuff can i add to this site to make it look better?

thanks in advance

It's very difficult to read the text because of the ... extreme colors.

Try colourlovers.com.

Yes, it is hard to read the text because of the colors.

Also, I realize you are still learning but you will want to eventually look into learning how to control the layout of your page using CSS instead of tables.

Many people and developers do not like tables. CSS is used more often now to control web page layout. You don't have to use it, the choice of course is yours. I was just letting you know what is used most often by developers today.

Here are a couple of threads that talk about CSS vs table usage on websites:

Now, on to the site review:
The content is very hard to read, the opacity makes it hard to focus on and the colors are hard on the eyes. I would suggest using more neutral colors and increasing the opacity to something like 75 or 80 (at minimum).

For example - you would click on my profile and on the left hand side there is 'send me a message'..

Alternatively - to the right of a user's name (in a post) is a small box that brings up an overview of a that person's profile.. at the bottom is five icons.. the middle one (that looks like an envelope) says to 'pm this user'.. same effect.

No.. if you have a single post you have PM abilities.. assuming you didn't turn them off.
