Dream Job?

Post icon  Posted 07 July 2009 - 11:50 PM

Everyone has a dream, so what's your passion? What would be your ideal working environment? Do you want to grind away 9 to 5 & work your way up the corporate ladder, or would you rather fall backwards into a position of power? Maybe your the manager type, or perhaps you would like a lot less stress & prefer being an assistant.

Coder?
Hardware?
Networking?
Bench Tech?
White-Collar/Blue-Collar?
Un-IT related?
Student for Life?

Discuss :)

I would really want to work in a large software company (Microsoft, Apple, EA etc.) - this environment seems quite comfortable for me from many points of view (social, professional etc.).

When I grow up, I wanna be a web developer... only I want a company that pays fair wages, insurance benefits, legitimate vacation/sick/personal time, maybe a 401(k), maybe some sort of profit sharing plan or bonus incentive and follows through with regular reviews and -at the very least - cost of living raises. Ideally, this work environment would have cubicles wider than 3 feet (1 yd, for the non-Americans in the crowd) and more than one person competent enough to complete a task.

Whoever I work for, I want to be responsible for writing useful applications. Is that so much to ask? =p

Make some serious money doing as much game programming as possible then freelancing as and when I feel like it, the serious money part will probably be quite hard though

As with many others, I'd love to work in a game development business that doesn't require me to work until 2am every day, with decent pay (maybe 45-50k?) and NO FRIGGIN WEEKENDS unless I'm doing it from home.

Otherwise, I'd just like to develop software as Core said, he pretty much hit the nail right on the head. :)

My lifelong dream goal has been to become a game programmer. I would love to be an employee of Blizzard Entertainment.

But realistically, lol, I would also take great pleasure in writing apps that make a difference, doing something for the greater good, such as health/medical informatics, biometrics, or biomechanics. Sounds pretty noble, right?

It would also be pretty cool to do some cloud computing/programming before the cloud becomes commonplace.

I get the kicks from creating something that works for all to see and use. Hence i'll say coder/progect manager is my type. I just enjoy the planning, designing and best of all coding.

Also, I love a team environment where programmers toss ideas around at each other while developing a software solution. It's all just fun! :pirate:

I've always liked the idea of working for a scrappy, profit-sharing startup. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to try it seriously yet.
