Right now I am in research, but when human-computer interaction technology develops more and I finish school, I will probably try for a job outside of research.

I want to do human-computer interaction programming. There are so many applications, but I have a few areas of preference. One idea is a game programmer for a nice, big company with lots of room, funds, and desire to expand their interaction possibilities with players and optimize current options.

Another idea is working for NASA or a similar company in programming high end simulators of sorts. The medical field also has many growing opportunities, often in remote surgery techniques, simulators, and virtual reality treatment for patients. If I can help the progression of the human race through this, I would be happy.

I have things set up to help the field along over my life, and as such I will go wherever I have to in order to aid the progression of human-computer interaction. I will probably dedicate my life to it.

In a job, I would like to have slightly flexible hours or be able to work in the afternoon and evening rather than morning and afternoon. I am a night person. I would also like weekends free (most of the time) for fencing (some time in the week for that too), dog obedience competitions, and the occasional convention. Preferably, the company should be fairly large and have the funds and desire to progress in human-computer interaction in their products. I don't care much about salary, I just need enough to live in a small apartment and support myself and a dog as well as a few hobbies. Though if it doesn't quite meet that level it is okay too. I will likely be writing manga on the side.

There are a couple of different dream jobs I've considered... possibly simultaneous...

People have always told me I would make a good teacher. I've often considered being either a math/programming tutor at the minimum (which is kind of what I do as a hobby anyway) to being a professor of CS and/or math at a University at the max.

I think it would be neat to work in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence, that's one of the reasons the LISP family of languages fascinates me. Besides, I already have a start in Japanese, and that's probably where I'd want to work if I got a job like that.

I've also wanted to be a game designer. Although I'm not as much for modern games (I'm kind of stuck in the NES~Playstation era) I've always liked the idea of just sitting at home making games as more of a hobby.

I always thought it would be neat to make a series of games that were basically edutainment, but popular enough that people will actually play them. I mean full-fledged RPGs and the like that will teach you to be fluent in another language by the end of the game, for example.

Most of all, I hate the idea of having to work in an office-like setting, always working for somebody else. I would love to have a job where I can set my own hours and just let my creative juices flow. Something more like a freelancer or independent contractor or something.

Any suggestions?

P.S. It seems like a lot of people here also would like to be game designers... why don't we start our own company? :D

I have been everything I wanted to be in this life, from simple worker, to manager, then soft skills trainer, then owner of my own company. By the way, being a manager or a company owner is not as fun as it sounds ;). What I would truly like to do now would be to work in the gaming industry of any kind. Imagine: being paid to play! :P

My honest to goodness dream jobs are to work as a DBA for a mid-size to large company, or to get back into security as a body guard, or to get my computer repair company fully off the ground. Either way, I'd be making some serious money!

I'd like to be a tenured professor... ponder my navel, dream in code...
I would enjoy being on the cutting edge of programming evolution and maybe adding a few rails to the tracks already laid down.

Initially, I wanted to go into Astronomy, purely because it had electronics and computers as a consideration. Tried a course, didn't work out so well. Now I settle for just star gazing, whenever I've got the chance. Last week I've finally seen the entire constellation of Orion.

Me, I'm nowhere near being a programmer or anything of such experience. There is a developing company (of online games) that I looked up, went for an interview. When I was there, I thought only the developers worked with two monitors, but realised even the receptionists also work with 2 monitors. I didn't get the job anyway. (Nerves, I tell you, why did God ever make them).

My dream job would be (obviously) in the developing/programming of any huge company, being a person that assists others (unfortunately I'm so used to doing that, I've been accustomed to it). I prefer not being in any management position, I feel there is no excitement there. That or robotics or research (medical/biomedical). I build robots in my spare time and find the electronics field quite fascinating. My hours, I prefer to start in the afternoon and work thru the night, usually call centers do that, I'm not call center material. I can never sleep at night, so I might as well work in the night.

Game programming, just recently piqued (I have no idea if this is the right word) my interest, never did my own game as yet. I don't even play games that frequently. Honestly, where's the time, however I do love strategy games, packed with some good action.

PIC programming is something I would like to really go into. So, now must get to grips with assembly and C and see if I can come up with some of my own code. (Don't know if that is possible with C++?) May consider this as a hobby.

And Web development, seems to be more scope for this a Java architects.

Yes, someone did mention to me as well, that I would make a great teacher, I started believing them, now I offer Java lesson and maths tuitions, to whomever wants it. Unfortunately working is South Africa as a lecturer, you gotta have some kind a qualification, to hell with that. There is only so much one human being can do.

In the meantime, trying to make some extra cash, building web sites for other people (note to self, gotta put ad in paper for that to happen...) and starting my own web site with my own recipes. (I'm in a battle between the kitchen and the computer... it is proven I'm not 100% geek) And dreaming of starting my own vegetarian restaurant one day.

@Jaakuuta: I'm in if you consider starting you own online game company.

@Shidash: human computer interaction is indeed fascinating. I was thinking more education oriented.

Pornstar minus the cameras.

That would definitely keep me satisfied.

But wait, is that not my life already..?

Ah well, I'll go for my backupdreamplan. Which is to be writing fiction. Not a very easy task to make money of though.
