Socket in VB6

Post icon  Posted 09 July 2009 - 03:55 AM

Hi All,

I am new to Socket implementation in VB6. I wanted to have create a socket from my VB6 plat form, connect to an IP address and send some data through the socket and Receive data trhough the socket.

Is it possible to do this in VB6 and if possible please explain how i can go forward? One more thing i wanted to know is while we send data through the socket will it be in a string format ? and what will be the maximum size of data that we can send at a time?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Yes it is possible. There really is no "maximum" size of data you can send at a time, unless you are thinking down at the packet level. If you are sending a something on the scale of, oh lets say one megabyte, many packets are going to be sent. You will not need to handle each individual packet in your program though. As for a tutorial, search Google for something like "vb 6 sockets".
