Sweet Bands You've Never Heard Of

Posted 11 July 2009 - 10:59 AM

List some sweet bands that you don't think are very well known. Try to list the genre too, if possible.

Epica - Opera metal
Nightwish - Opera metal

Coheed and Cambria - ... rock... I can't really classify them in any subcatagories really. Awesome rock. There we go :D
Soul Legacy - They're rock/metal. You probably wont really find them as they were really only a local band... that has since broke up. It was my half-bro's moms ex-bf's band lol.

Waking the Cadaver -- Really really obnoxious metal. Like the really low grunt stuff. High pitched, scream/squeak lyrics. You can't understand the lyrics at all. Literally.

NIGHTWISH FTW.

Nightwish - Opera metal

Nightwish is Symphonic Metal, and many times it takes the role of Gothic Metal. It has some songs that sound like opera, but the instruments make it more symphonic. I am such a Nightwish fan, you have no idea. I have all their discs, its everything I have been listening to in the past weeks x__X.

Oh yeah also their new Vocalist, Anette Olzon, has a completely different voice than the other vocalist (Tarja Turunen). Tarja has that soprane voice that sounds like Opera. If you listen to Nightwish's last album (Dark Passion Play), you will see that doesn't have any elements that sound like opera ^__^.

Epica is awesome too.

Groups that I think are not very well known:

Within Temptation: Gothic/Symphonic Metal. NeoTifa and Locke may like it.
Visions Of Atlantis: Read above.
Sham Rain: I would say it is "Atmospheric Rock". Very interesting never the less.
Apocalyptica: Chello Rock? XD Its very awesome never the less. They have a lot of variety for their music.
Rhapsody (Of Fire): Symphonic Rock/Metal. It is very unique, and very awesome never the less.
Fairyland: Like Rhapsody, it was inspired by Rhapsody, in fact.
Gordian Knot/Sean Malone: Sean Malone's projects have a very unique combination of sounds. You should really try to check them out.

Oh well, I don't consider Annette to be a part of Nightwish, so therefore they don't exist anymore as far as I'm concerned. I love Tarja because of her opera-ish sounding voice, which is why I sorta classified it as Opera Rock. Opera Metal implements the Symphonic Metal interface, so .... (or extends, depending on which way you look at it :D)

I really love Dimmu Borgir, which is Symphonic Metal

I'm pretty sure that symphonic metal and opera metal is the same thing, and I know that Dimmu Borgir is black metal even though I hate everything metal and consider most things norweigan (or finnish) poor taste! :)

How can I possibly respond to this? A sweet band that I've never heard of? Once I tell you the band it would contradict the first argument; therefore, I can't possibly name a band can I?
