Hobby:
I only program as a hobby, I choose short simple projects that I can jump from easily. Or I have one long project with no real dead line...I guess I sort of have ADD when it comes to programming. If I get too bored with my current project, I forget about it for a while...

I do both. I work all day as a Senior Web Developer for an Ad Agency, I freelance in the evenings and then I play when I can. I usually try to incorporate the play into work so that I am always learning something new and it doesn't become mundane.

I said "Other" at the moment I do it as a hobby (other than my freelance gig), but I am going to school to become a programmer (Comp Sci) so it will be a career in a short time.

I say Lifestyle.
I've had programming jobs, & I've had administrative jobs. Now that I run my own business, I'm always thinking of ways to automate tasks.
Even in my home life, I've always got to take stuff apart & either look at any visible scripting code, or see if I can tinker with it, adding Linux or some other way of making it do something fun.

Hobby mostly, even though this summer it has been my only source of income.

I was started it as a hobby, very soon I realized that this can be my career. Now this is my only source of income...

I voted lifestyle as over the years, the code has consumed everything... from working as a developer, to doing freelance work at home, to lurking about the forums helping people with their code just for fun, to gradual changes in my thought processes, to explaining things to my kids (or anyone else for that matter) using flowcharts and if statements. I was once a social butterfly. Now I'm more of a cave weed. I don't go anywhere. I don't do anything that doesn't somehow involve code. When I'm working out or cleaning the house or eating dinner, I'm thinking about code. I dream about databases. My conversations are always revolving around what I did with code today, or what I plan on doing with code tomorrow... essentially, I guess it's not just a lifestyle, it is life.

Lifestyle, programming is not only the way I feed my family but it's one of my biggest hobbies as well. If I'm not working on a project (which is pretty rare lately) then I'm working on one of my personal projects (UltraBlog, PsychoTwitter, etc)

I figured as such...
I say lifestyle because as of right now, I do it as a hobby
but also, I'm tutoring others at programming, and I like making tutorials and the like, so I guess you can say it's kind of a career thing to, especially as I'm going to school for CS right now so hopefully I'll get paid for it eventually

As of now, programming is my hobby. But someday I hope I will make it a lifestyle/career when I have learned enough and have confidence about my skills.

I can't vote...?
Anyhoo, I wanted to pick all of the above, so I guess I'll pick lifestyle(if it'll let me).

Hobby. May turn into a career in the future, but for now it's just a hobby.
