As the title would imply, I have a problem with Wordpress that I am hoping someone can help me fix.

Now, I am not the best knowledge on wordpress, as I just started using it really today, but I have already managed to somehow break the theme editor. Now when I click "Editor" under "Appearance" this error comes up:

The only problem is that I am using the default skin...

So, I am a little perplexed, but I think it must be something to do with file signatures or the like (as the files all still exist and work when I view the blog main page).

Any ideas on how to repair this?

I am using the latest stable release of Wordpress (2.8.3), in case that matters.

What do you have under Appearance/Themes? Sounds like you don't something installed.


Might need to reinstall the default theme to access the CSS for it.

Step 1, redownload wordpress onto your local system
Step 2, open content > theme
Step 3, Copy the default theme and paste it on your server in relation to where it was on the local disk
Step 4, upload the default theme from your local to your server

Hopefully this will help you out. Themes are standalone files that don't need configuring since it is not based on the actual files that build up wordpress. You could also always just get another theme from wordpress.org. Its under the extended catagory

Yes, I believe it broke originally because I removed this from the top of the skin file:

I can't think of anything else that would cause the problem.

My best guess would be that wordpress references the themes by name not by file. So if you delete the name the files become meaningless to wordpress and in effect 'dissapear'.

yes that is exactly how it works. because wordpress has its own ways of implicating themes and checks the theme on every page load it needs a way of knowing what file is what so it reads this off of the css file. You can change it if you want but i would make a new folder and copy the theme before doing so.
