I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this at the top of InfoQ, my first thoughts wandered back to the April fools joke when SpringSource announced acquisition by Microsoft...
But after checking the date and reading the post, I realized it was true.
VMware and SpringSource sound like a weird combination. True, SpringSource has been leaning further towards infrastructure with their commercial products, but VMware has never focused on the application side of things, and more worryingly has never focused on the open source side of things either.
It's business model is quite the opposite to SpringSource, which makes money supporting open source software.
This is a pretty big buy, SpringSource has been growing lately and I had not expected them to be bought out like this - it will certainly be interesting to see how it plays out.
