Project Hyvar.NET

Posted 22 August 2009 - 01:07 PM

Hyvar.NET is a web browser that I'm working on.

What i'd really love is for a few people to recommend features for me to implement that they'd like to see in a webbrowser - but currently don't.

I'm aiming - rather ambitiously - to make it one of the best browsers going.

The CORE project aims - Speed, Usability, Functionality

Thoughts?

ALSO:

Im thinking of changing the name, any ideas for the new one are appreciated and openly welcomed.

Do you have a link? We can't review otherwise.

Your name might need a change: I can't pronounce it! :) And what's the .NET for? Is it written in .NET languages?

The idea seems ambitious but look at Open Studio (see subforum here). They (Oh yea... I'm one of 'em too) We aim to design a open source Visual Studio. Perhaps you have a chance. :)

Please update!

Its pronouced Hi-Ver-Dot-Net
And yes, the .NET is because it's written in VB.NET.

I assume by link, your meaning to a website.
Currently I don't have one, but will do in the future, I'm going to set up a Codeplex site for it.

ON THAT NOTE!!!
Asteroids3D is game i worked on a while back but never really "completed" - it does work though, few bugs.
Asteroids 3D ProjectPage

I'll update this post with the link to Hyvar.net's page in the morning after i've made it.

What do you think i should call it, just out of interest, in place of Hyvar.NET?

The name is fine, somewhat. Just spell it like it sounds. Hyver. And get rid of the .NET, users don't care what language it's written in.

The .NET is also because it's a webbrowser, Which would then make it the Hyver Browser. Can you think of a different name?

I'm also looking for people to recommend features for me to implement.
Preferably those that a browser needs but none currently have. (in opinion)

Thanks!

For those that are interested - the current feature set is:

Tabbed Browsing.
Favourites Handling.
BASIC History Handling.
Download Manager (Plus a full Download Manager available as an optional plugin).
Componentized UI (To simplify code really).
Extended Browser Functions.
Skinning (Currently only the main browser button images and colors [colors in tabbing options]).
PopDown - Popup Blocker (needs some work - it blocks EVERYTHING - even the good stuff [Aahhhhh yeahhh - the good stuff]).
PhishBait - Phishing Philter (Using the PhishTank Database [www.phishtank.com] - not completely implemented, getting there).
Customizable Download Exclusion (Via xml entry adding).

I plan to implement:
The WebKit.NET Browser component (So i can override half of it within the browser - seeing as its written from scratch).
Inbuilt media 'streamer', using one of the 3 main media player components (Quicktime/WMP/RealPlayer).
Radio Streamer (As an optional Plugin - an extension to the inbuilt streamer).

More stuff will come in the future, but features stem from ideas - SO GIVE ME YOUR IDEAS PEOPLE!!!
Its appreciated :D

i've chosen to use a CSV version of the phishtank database. It'll be simpler to read than JSON/PHP and XML versions.

On to my reader class!

Hay X@MPP,
Im currently using the LumenWorks IO library for my csv interpreting.

However, once Pyro is completed to the extent that I can safely interpret and use my .csv file
(which can be found at www.phishtank.com), I'll happily use it =] the more opensource, the better xD

Ha, i thought you meant it was a csv interpretter

So, pyro's a web rendering engine.
Unfortunately, i cant seemly just implement that, it has to be part of a webbrowser control :)
However, i do think we can get you some publicity for it - as the potential future rendering engine of hyvar.net xD

FEATURE SET UPDATE!!!

PhishBait is now FULLY implemented.

Hyvar.NET is now protected from a list of 3933 known phishing websites.
And the phishtank database GROWS once an hour.

(the url count was 3933 on the last download of the database performed by myself. Itll be much more now, seeming as that download was yesterday)
