Windows 7

Posted 11 September 2009 - 02:05 PM

Alright I'm curious to know how most of you got Windows 7? Is it still available to get? And does anybody know when its coming out to release?

Also those of you who use it, please explain to the rest of us, whats good about it, and whats bad about it, because to be honest I used vista at work and I was glad I got knowledge of it, because I would never upgrade to vista unless support for XP was discontinued. So I think not only me but other would appreciate anybody's input on these things.

And by looking at Septembers desktops I know who you are ;)

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

It's due to be released in october I think. However, as someone who beta tested it, I have to say I'm impressed. It's much better than Vista in my opinion.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate (Retail), I was able to get it because it was available to MSDN subscribers on August 6th. I absolutely love it, I always like the new look of Vista but didn't like the fact that it took so many resources to run it. Windows 7 has the nice look but doesn't drain system resources nearly as much as Vista did.

So far I've really not found anything bad about it, well there's some software issues as far as drivers but that's mostly because since it's not available to the general public most companies haven't made any drivers or anything for it, but that will change once it's completely available. I like that it comes with IIS7, it comes with Powershell installed (no need to download and install it, it comes with the OS), and the .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 is installed with the OS.

I cant believe how much faster it reboots, even compared to XP (in fact in a lot of ways XP seems like a pig compared to Windows 7) and my dev tools, such as Visual Studio 2008 runs much faster on it (along with SQL Server Management Studio). When it comes to games the graphics are incredible because of DirectX 10. All in all I would say it's one of the best OS's Microsoft has ever released.

Windows 7 Premium Upgrade is only $119 (with the full version being $199) so that's extremely reasonable considering Windows XP Professional is $135 on NewEgg

I currently have the RC on my laptop and have to say that, after fixing some of the bugs I saw in the beta, it runs great and is slim enough to run fast on this 5 year old acer that I'm using. I think in October I might actually do the upgrade for my desktop.

i now run Rc as my primary OS(Pending the time i get an official version. since i have at least 6 more months)....The basic difference i have noticed over the last 3 weeks is

1. Design...Win-7 is more pretty and system sounds are more appealing and have 3-d effects

2. Speed--Win-7 does a lot of things faster..login..shutdown--blah..blah

3-infinity---Newre network manager, taskbar, explorer...etc

Been using it for a while now, even though I don't have very high standards, the one thing that makes it worth it for me is that it is fast.

build 7083. Also, as of now, unless something has changed, no laptops should have Windows 7 until October I think it is. The only people who can get it are the MSDN subscribers who get the RC, which is as far as I know, 7083.

@ccubed: MSDN subscribers have access to the retail version not the RC (I know because I have the retail (Build 7600) not RC). Just an FYI :)
