This is not actually a programming question its a hardware question.

I can understand why you did not provide code. So in this ONE AND ONLY instance I will tell you the answer anyway. There is no code. Hence why you could not give any. It works just like a keyboard. You plug it in to the computer. Scan something and it will be as if the appropriate numbers were pressed on the keyboard. Windows handles the getting part. To prove this open up command prompt or notepad or something like that and scan something. The appropriate code will just turn up on the screen.

In VB6 if you have a text box on a form and you click it at runtime to select it and scan something the scanned code will just go right into the box.

I wrote an entire EPOS scanning system for my final high school project and I never even referenced that there was a scanner. It just works.

If it does not work then either its not installed properly or you have an odd scanner.

If when you scan a barcode the numbers don't show up in notepad then what you need is called a keyboard slice but I don't know where you would get one because they are built in as I said.

Good luck

It's not strictly true in all cases that "it just works".

Some scanners require a small piece of software to run to allow the scanner to be used in "keyboard wedge" mode.

It depends on the model of the scanner and whether it has a decoded output or not as to whether any software is required.
