Learning Liberty BASIC would do him about as much good as fucking a goat underneath a Christmas Tree.

Explain why.

You know why. I'm not going to explain the obvious.

The obvious is that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Yet another beginner who bashes on a BASIC dialect just because he/she heard somebody else do it. You should've at least used Google and copied somebody else's argument for BASIC being bad...

I don't think you have the right to tell me what I know and don't know. I have plenty of people who are much older and much wiser than I who will agree with exactly what KYA and I are saying. I think you need to learn to have a little respect for the people around you.

That doesn't even remotely make you right (not saying you're not, but it doesn't automatically make you right).

If we were having this discussion in real life and Raynes could provide names of the people who hold this assertion it would have some merit. That's why papers have references, citations, etc... Accomplished people in the workplace generally have valued opinions. Unfortunately we are on the internet and well, you've seen what happens when people discuss stuff on the internet.

All I can say is, if you love BASIC then use it. Experience has told me it is not worth taking the time to teach someone it if there's going to move on to bigger and better things later. Again, we're on the internet and no one cares what my opinion is, but I thought I would share it.

Way2Go me...sigh...

Relax, lots of people I know in real life don't even care what I think...so at least you have that.

Let's keep this a civilized debate with open minds and intelligent opinions. No need for name calling and harsh words.

moving from the topic of discussion to a debate on Basic, cool.

To the one who started this thread, confidence is the word I would use. My interest in programming started when I visited the library and borrowed a simple, extremely small thin book on BASIC programming, I just tried out the programs in the book and pretty much examined and made sense of the code myself. Now, debate aside, forget learning basic. Find a book that would be right for you, not something that gives you a whole lot of theoretical stories and don't get to the actual programming. Try out some simple codes first and make sense of it yourself, you will have questions, if the book don't explain it, dreamincode is here. Thats all I have to say.
