Sometimes I do prefer something electronic with a quick beat, but most often I fall back to avant garde jazz, Coltrane and the like. Because scripting can sometimes require a bit of unorthodox genius... I feel like it helps tap my creativity. That and a big pot of caffeine.

I like metal, the style depends on the mood, sometimes I prefer something slow, sometimes something funny (folk-metal), other times fast and brutal (death, black, progressive).

Usually death metal/core. Sometimes I'll play a little Mayhem, instead.
Mainly listen to Cannibal Corpse, however.
Good music.

Bill Gates and his group were known to have coded to death metal.
Personally it depends for me, usually rock or something that I can get into...The Gorillaz are a good choice

I normally listen to techno or new age when I code or write stories. It seems to clear out all the distractions and help me code better. Anything that is too loud and harsh (metal, etc.) becomes a distraction to me.

I usually listen to Tool, Muse, Placebo, Kasabian, Dashboard Confessional, Jimmy Eat World, although after accomplishing something particularly important or taxing, I do like to put on some Edward Elgar, Vivaldi or Beethoven and bask in a glow of satisfaction
Oh and by the way, if you have Last.fm: Add me!!!
P.S: Can the D.I.C admins add 'Lexus' to the list of car manufacturers in profile options please?

If it's already silent in the house, I'll keep it that way. My concentration hasn't been the best lately. If I need to filter out other distractions, then I'll go for death metal. Hard enough to counter the other noises, and the words aren't as easy to make out so its less of a distraction itself.
