Out of PC based editing premeire was the best I've come across, however there are better ones on the macs, cause PC is a bad platform for video editing.

so either Windows or Macs or linux will do

i just dont like adobe premiere works. to complicated. its great for proffesional movies but i just want semi professional for now. i dont want to work on a movie for 5 months just a 1- 2 months

Final Cut Pro HD is what I use. Comes with LiveType as well, the best animator for text, without taking the time that after effects or motion uses. I HIGHLY advise getting Final Cut Pro HD, or an older Final Cut Pro. I work in the field, and this is what I and everyone I know uses. As far as PC, yes premiere beats the shit out of the PC competion.

I actually really like Vegas Video, its easy to use and pretty powerful. I did a couple of shorts in it that turned out really good. What do you use for audio?

Goldwave is good. Audacity is very similar if not just a tad better.
