I'm doing it wrong!

Posted 23 September 2009 - 09:53 PM

Apparently, as my brother so stated. I am programming wrong because I take too long. The right way is to design sites in dreamweaver. Because coding by hand is wrong, and I'm wasting my time. Did I miss the boat? Curse these hands and eyes that want to see feel every line of code. Maybe I'm a rebel idk. I am drunk though. So it softens the blow.

** Moved to corner cubicle **

I'd be interested to know how much your brother makes designing websites.

DreamWeaver generates some god awful code. It's better to hand-code, in my opinion.

My boss often goes off on tangents about "updating" my skill set to dreamweaver. gag me.

Give me a text editor and let me go. You'll get a better end product and I won't leave work wanting to shove pencils in my eyes everyday. :D

You're on the boat. Your brother is probably not.

DreamWeaver is a kin to painting by numbers or drawing with wax crayons.
Whereas hand-coding is akin to artistry.

You feel that way anyway, right?

On-topic: Dreamweaver = NetBeans GUI Designer. Speeds up the process, but the maintainability is virtually lost.

The NetBeans GUI Designer generates code that is literally, unreadable and un-editable. You'll probably shoot yourself if you look at it too long. Much like C++. :D

You know what they say...

Whenever you encounter problems in C, it's like shooting yourself in the foot with a 9mm. You can't function very well with a gunshot wound.

Using C++ makes it a little more difficult to shoot yourself. But when you do, you're using a 50 caliber...to blow off your entire foot.

Nope. Right now, I leave work wanting to purchase an at-home lobotomy kit.

It's like that, only worse because the structure of the html by itself should contain semantic meaning. You don't use an <h1> tag just because you want the text bigger, you use it to designate a top level header for the document.

The code that NetBeans spits out may not be readable, but it's not designed to convey meaning within its structure. For Swing code, the end result is the ultimate measure of the code, did it produce what was required.

Somebody has missed the boat, and that somebody is not you.
