Intro of Bing's influence on Google

Post icon  Posted 24 September 2009 - 08:52 AM

Hey all,

So this mainly goes out to the Google analytics people out there. Here is my question...

Since the introduction of Bing(Microsoft's new search engine) how has the number of searches on the web with specific search engines changed to influence this new engine? So in other words with more and more people searching on Bing, how are people with google adwords(or similar accounts) influenced or missing more and more searches. And what do you think google will do in a response?

Cheers

Bing lacks lots of features that Google provides such as Language translation and Advance Search.

I don't think Bing can ever be good as Google

I would have to respectfully disagree, I've started using Bing more & more, and a lot of the times it gives me better results than Google (Odd eh) so I think Google finally has a decent competitor. I also like Bing's image search far more than Google's (remember this is all just personal opinion) and I do think it offers some features that Google doesn't offer (I personally could care less about the language translation part personally, in my opinion that's a useless feature.).

I think at times Bing is actually faster than Google (at least for me anyways) and I like the lack of tons of ads shown, unlike on Google (Which is an ad haven). Just my 2 :)

Interesting response, I have to say... this is something that I've been noticing and what lead to this topic. I can see it competing with google when it comes to regular searches, but i can't see it competing with everything else that google does so well like maps.

@PsychoCoder I think I need to actually try Bing before commenting on it.

I use Bing about 15 to 20 times a day my friend so I'm not sure where that comment came from. I almost use it more than Google now a days, maybe you are the one who needs to use it before commenting :)

Before Bing was official, I used msn to search simply because it was my homepage. The results are relatively similar. If Bing doesn't give me something I need, I move onto Google. i cannot think of the last time I searched something on Yahoo, lol.

@PsychoCoder There's a misunderstanding. I meant to say I need to try and use Bing before commenting on it, I never meant to say you need to use it. :)

I am so shocked some people are using Bing! OMG!

and the way both yahoo and bing have altered their algorithms, to match that of google is just insane! now the results are kinda the same but google obviously rules the game.

You guys I don't know what you search honestly...and you obviously haven't compared the 3 for you to settle for so much less...

try a search on google, yahoo and bing...which results are better? how about the presentation of results? anjd on being fast...google delivers in less than a second!! it must be your connection pyschocoder.

On google don't be afraid to click "web options" at the top there so you can easily specify the pages you really want....

There is just so much more on Google than Bing...

I guess at the end of the day, it's all about personal taste and using what floats your boat!

for me google is the best ever!

Bing! has my business listed with my cell phone number, where as all other search engines have it listed correctly.

What would be the best way to get this updated/corrected with Bing!?

** Updated **

A few clicks into the search & I found a way to "suggest an update". But we'll see :)
