beginner...

ok...so I know html pretty well, and I'm trying to learn java...any advice on where to start...what good sites/books would help me out ...

The Java Tutorial

Pretty much everything you need to know to get going..
I will warn you, html is nothing like java (java is a fully featured programming language whereas html is a markup language).

But go for it! Java can be a good place to get started, and if you're interested in application development (particularly for windows), check out J#.NET or C/C++. Or if web dev is your thing, PHP, SQL, and all that other jazz.
