Not sure how many of you played the old GuildWars (which came out about the same time as WOW), but the first (actual) sequel is coming out here sometime in the not-so-distant future (unlike Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2...).

They have released the trailer for it and have a website with various updates on the game up:

So, what do you think? Will it be worth the upfront money (and lack of subscription fees)? I think it will, but maybe that is just me.

I think I got my money's worth out of the first, even though I don't play it any more. I'm not sure I'll get into the second, my taste in games has changed since then.

I've got the first, but it's not really my cup of tea. Bit of a waste of money IMO.

Good time killer though, if I have nothing else to do.

Hah, wow I didn't realize this thread has been around for so long (over a year now), so sorry but this will be a necro.

Just wanted to point out to anyone who is still waiting for this game to come out (which they - arena.net - have taken a very Blizzard-esque approach to release date: "When it's ready"), this last week they released the first class which wasn't in the first game, called the Guardian.

Interestingly enough it appears to have a lot of the monk smiting skills from GW1 (including symbol of wrath, ray of judgement, shield of absorption, healing breeze, shielding hands, and mighty blow - previously a warrior skill).

Anyone still waiting for this game? Or has it fallen through the cracks?

Yeah, I was considering playing it, but given that the final game will have subscription fees (Rift, not Guildwars 2), I won't be anymore. I don't want to get addicted to something that will be sucking a little bit of my soul out each month - plus being a college student I don't have a ton of money to burn, and that which I do have has better uses than a game I may not get my money's worth any given month.

I find it amusing that the first post had a nice little dig at Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 for taking a long time to come out, yet here we are well over a year later, still waiting on Diablo 3 but Starcraft 2 is old news. Guess you can't bet on any game coming out in a timely fashion these days.

Im giving up on WoW and moving to this game... WoW has gotten too Elitest Jerks now... i was all epiced out in 264/277 gear in LK... but Cata prices just skyrocketed for everything in the AH.. Can't touch a Piece of BoE gear in AH for less than 15k and people dont wanna pay for any of your Skills.. i.e on my pally im a JC.. im lucky to get a 5g tip for a cut, yet the gem in the AH is several 100G
Just lame anymore
GW2 looks TiTs so I think I'm going to give up on WoW for another year or so

To be fair, Guild Wars 2 would have to take longer than Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 for the digs to be invalid, not simply come out later.

Ah I didn't re-read the OP, just yours which painted the dig as being about taking a long time.

Starcraft 2 was around 12 years, Guild Wars 2 is running on 6, and Diablo 3 is getting to 12 (if we count the length of time from prior installation to sequel). This does seem like an inordinate amount of time to create these games.
