My little intro...

Posted 26 September 2009 - 04:02 AM

Long time lurker, first time poster

Well, I've been trying to teach myself PHP for a while, and just started a degree in Computer Science at Canterbury University (Christchurch, New Zealand... bottom of the world... 4 million people, 40 million sheep, hobbits and little else of consequence :D )

The intro course for the computer science side of things is pretty much learn to program in JAVA, and OO fundamentals... its great and I am really enjoying it... And since I am spending a lot more time coding now I thought I should stop lurking and and join... so here I am. I look forward to learning more and returning the support DIC has given me when I can.

Cheers

Steve

Hello Steve. Welcome to Dream.In.Code.

I'm glad you've joined us. You were right about the lurking. It's much better to join and be a part of the community. Kind of like being at school...peeping in through the windows as opposed to actually entering the building. You can learn a lot more by asking questions and actively participating, I think.

So how is the weather in New Zealand?

Welcome to Dream.In.Code

Thanks for joining Dream.In.Code, hope to see you around the forums someday :)

You have just stepped into the greatest programming community on the Internet, we have experts for just about every mainstream language, and even some languages that aren't so mainstream, so the level of expertise is second to none. All will be more than willing to help, as long as you too are willing to put forth the effort to solve your problem, and to go along the road to becoming a better programmer smile.gif

I would like to ask that when making a programming question that you first place your code inside code tags like this :code: . This makes it much easier to read through large pieces of code, and keeps your post a little more organized.

When posting a programming question first make sure you're in the first forum, then make sure you provide as much information as you can think of that would make it easier for a 2nd pair of eyes to help you debug your issue.

If you happen to get bored (I know, it's real hard to do here) you can check out our Off Topic Caafeine Lounge, the Corner Cubical, dedicated to industry talk, or the Student Campus, dedicated to all things for students.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact myself or another staff member, and we will be more then happy to answer any questions you might have.

Although sometimes its better to not get caught trying to join in with something you're peeking through the windows at :P

Cold... but dry. We're heading into Spring and its getting better all the time, but it would be nice if it was warmer right now :)

Thanks for the reply, much better than the other plastic cut'n'paste job I got... but hey, I understand the motivation for that one

You're welcome. But I gotta say, the admins and other important people here don't have as much time to devote to a personal reply for everyone. Me, I'm just a greeter, so I have nothing better to do! :P

Here in Alabama it's been hot. In fact we had the air conditioning on today. It would be nice if it cools down a bit.

This is one of the best replies I've seen in a while! Very funny!

I'm looking forward to hot. My parents are visiting San Fran at the moment (spending my inheritance on a world tour  lol...) and they were saying the temp's they've been getting there are about 15-20*C hotter than here... (around 35*C there, whatever that works out to in *F).

Tech forums would be pretty boring if we couldn't laugh every now and then :)
