How to make website look the same in different browsers.

Posted 26 September 2009 - 03:36 PM

Hello, I made a proxy and it looks good, has a decent background, and color scheme, and I posed for someone to review it here, and they said that it had a white background, and they were using Safari, so I downloaded Safari and Opera, the two other big browsers besides FireFox and IE, and I found out that it has white background, and all my fonts are not loading correctly.

I don't know if it is a against the rules to place a link, but here is the link to my website

iplox.tk

look at it in FireFox, then in Safari or Opera and you can easily see the difference.

Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem?

Thanks in advance,

- C++ Programmer

You know when you declare the background colour you use background: #abcdef;, have you tried using background-color: #blah; instead?

Also when declaring font families, I was taught it's always wise to end with a generic font family, for example: font-family: "Bitstream Vera Sans", "Arial", sans-serif;.

Also, might be a good idea to run your CSS through the W3C CSS validator.

P.S: When you've built your site, go to BrowserShots.org and test your website on a number of different browsers.

Thanks for the help, but it still doesn't help on Opera or Safari.

Have you tried fixing some of your HTML, especially this line:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css" type="text/css">

That needs a '/' before the last >, like so:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css" type="text/css" />
