Error 52

Post icon  Posted 30 September 2009 - 09:29 AM

Getting an Error 52 - Bad file name or number when trying to create a file on a website. The code is very simple, works fine if I try to create it on my hard drive. I can see the website, read the directory, just can't seem to create a file. Am I missing an external refrence or library that I need to make this work,? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Open "http://website/directory/file.txt" For Output Access Write As #5
print #5, tmpstring
close #5

It's likely you don't have permission to open the file.

They claim I do...I'll go back to the webmaster and see if he's lying. Stay tuned and Thanks for the speedy reply.

Wow, can you really just open a file for writing directly on a website like that?

I doubt it.

I thought it sounded too easy as well. Would you have some sample code as to "how" this might work?
Thanks in advance,
Dave

It's a complicated question. Many people edit files on web servers either directly on the box running the web server (by connecting to it remotely) or by uploading the files through FTP. There's also HTTP PUT and WebDAV, both of which must be supported by the web server and properly configured.
