Reciprocal Links

Posted 07 October 2009 - 08:50 PM

Are getting reciprocal links as good for seo as one way links back to our site.

We are a commercial truck financing site that wish to link to commercial truck dealer sites to get business. Just wanting to know if we will get an seo benefit as well.

Many search engines are beginning to reward sites for linking out as much as linking in. So don't be afraid to link out if the site is a good quality and relevant to your content. What you do want to avoid is linking to sites that are spammy or creating dead links. The idea is that you want to link out to quality sites as well as having quality sites linking to you. That way you get a benefit from both one way links coming in (showing that you are an authority in the area of expertise) as well as going out (showing that while you don't know everything, you are being helpful by pointing to other quality sites of information).

When it comes to linking, always think about the quality and respect each of the two sites get. One link to your site from a respectable site like GMC is worth more than no name dealers who are just reciprocating links you have to them.

You can link to them as long as they're not direct competitors for your target keywords. As of link quality, then one way links are much much better than reciprocal, at least try to achieve that the link on other site has your keyword as a link text and link title:
for example
<a href="yoursite.com" title="your keyword">Your Comapany name or better keyword</a>

Google is also capable of knowing the position of your link, so link in footer may be less valued than link in sidebar. Link appearance in html code is also important, so link in the left sidebar is better than in the right because it appears sooner in the code.
