Posted 09 October 2009 - 10:07 AM

Just wondering if anyone else is in the same situation as me? On October 16th I will be out of work again and still having a very tuff time finding any jobs at all that will give an interview let alone ones that I would actually like doing. Any body else experincing this? If you ever have how did you over come it?

Nope, at work right now. Learning MySQL and VBA for them, so that's why I'm on all the time this time of day. Horrah for multitasking.

Well thats where my problem lies, I am willing to learn anything if some one would give me a chance but no one does. I have applied for janitor jobs, retail jobs but nothing seems to come thru.

Most of my problems arise from not having the experience. There's a ton of jobs where I am for my field...but they all want 5 years of experience and I haven't even been working for 1 yet.

Still, you can find jobs out there. Just keep looking.

I know what you mean tones of tech jobs but I have no work experience and dont have bachelors degree. I found a job that just says writing html and they want a bachelors degree. And like I said I cant even get one thru Jantorial.

Hold on haiyun211, you don't NEED experience or a degree to get a tech job. I have been working as the PC Services Consultant, meaning I'm the company's bitch when it comes to IT services, for the past 3 years. I have no degree, but I am/was willing to learn whatever was needed. I got the job, and now, in my free time, I apply what I have learned to working for others on the side. As for experience, till 3 years ago, I had NO programming experience, I had always worked on the hardware side of computers. Mainly just building them and repairing them. However, I had programmed a little when I was 14 to 16 years of age, but nothing more then a batch file to open win.exe when the computer started up. All in all, I say hang in there, and keep applying at places. Someone is bound to bring you on board as a tech. Compile all your source code into a portfolio to take with you to interviews, and never stop learning.

Sometimes (as bad as I hate to say it) it's more who you know in this industry (and how well you know them). All I can say is keep your head high, file for unemployment (if it's available) and keep looking.

It helps to be enrolled in a college. Employers read college student as 'Cool, cheap labor and we can justify a cheap paycheck with the word internship.' -sagenod-

Not that I mind, I'd rather have experience than pay.

There is probably nothing that actually pays you without giving
experience of some kind.

If you are really desperate, you can use your pay to get experience.

Well, luckily this isn't a field where they can lower the federal wage so we're guaranteed 7.25 an hour! :P

Thanks guys for your input. I would still be attending school but me and my wife are both just trying to keep a roof over our kids heads and food in the tummies. My wife is working two jobs and I was working two jobs now I will be working my night job wich I am lucky to get 20 hours a paycheck so unfortunatly I cant get my schooling done but I will keep my head high and look at every no as a step closer to a yes.
