Does it capture your attention?

Posted 10 October 2009 - 01:09 AM

Hey,

So for my graphics forum, I have an affiliate image:

So, I was just wondering if it was with 20 others, would it capture your attention? Also, just general suggestions would be appreciated. :)

Thanks.

The theme definitely matches your forum but I'm not sure that my attention would be drawn to right away in the midst of other images. Don't get my wrong, it is a great graphic. I just don't see anything that would draw my attention to it straight away mixed with other images. It might be the background color. I know that it fits the theme of your site but perhaps a different color or perhaps a radial gradient. Just throwing out ideas here.

Thanks your your comments. This is an example of images that might help to compare: Link

I see from looking at that, the green buttons tend to stand out more than the blues. Do you agree?

Okay, I think the image you have blends in a bit too much with the majority of the others. While it currently works nicely with your graphics on the site it doesn't really capture the attention unless you are looking for it. One that I did notice right off the bat was the one with white text on the blue and green pill (I also noticed the ones that have reds and bright colors quickly). Given that I would suggest that you brighten it up a bit and give it some sort of green tinge. Additionally, think about adding a flash effect (gif), something like Windows Vista does in the loading/ progress bars (where the white shine goes across the bar). I think that will help to increase attention grabby-ness.

Hope that is of some use.

I would agree with BetaWar after looking at the link site. You would want something brighter and animated wouldn't hurt either. The background color you chose just blends in with the rest of the images. The orange and red ones capture my attention right away. The blue color you chose also blended in with the background color of the screen. Perhaps a complimentary color would work? Hope that helps.

i agree that it doesnt pop compared to the noise around it, but i will say, if i'm looking through those images, i prefer the more classic/classy look then something with alot of flare that comes off as more tacky than elegant in its simplicity. sometimes to stand out means *not* being the loudest.

Thanks nunya (or jaindough, or whatever it is and was :P),

I do agree with you and I was hoping that the type of design would help in achieving visitors.

nunya is right. It would be good if you could get something that attracts attention AND would draw the viewers attention. Perhaps you could come up with something that does both? A brighter background with the same text could likely do it. Just my $.02

I've made better. Try making the letters move. This would draw alot of attention. You could probably also add flashing colors.

Making the letters does capture the attention of the viewers but there are people that think that moving pictures are quite annoying

It kills the designer inside of me to say that overly obnoxious and neon colored ads catch attention faster...

@MrRodger - Pics or it didn't happen.

True, but you've got remember that this is a 88*31 sized canvas, and so you can't do overly much.
