Hi all,

I need help

I never played a RISK game before, so practically I know nothing about this game.

I don't need a code but I need to know what the game is all about.

I also need to know what are the things that I need to put in my program to make this game a playable, yet correct compared to the real one.

examples of functions are welcome!!!

thanks for your time.....

I recommend using google/wikipedia on this kind of questions:

http://en.wikipedia....iki/Risk_(game)

Few classes that came into my mind instantly (without playing the game but after reading a bit about it):
- Territory
- Continent
- Player
- Army
- Unit

Then of course you need User Interface to be able to actually see what's happening. If you don't allow Computer opponents, then you wouldn't have to write Artificial Intelligence at all which would reduce the work a lot and maybe is recommended. But of course, it's good to write the architecture so that it's not impossible to add AI later on.

wow.
first play the game you wish to clone!
Then learn to program, personally C# with XNA is best.
Find a nice libary and engine. A level editor could help to.
Do some research, google is your best freind!
what things do you need to put in it?? ALOT OF THINGS!
hours upon hours of brain crunching programing is what it will take! have fun

this is some new update i got from my instructor...

the game should be a one-on-one battle...in one territory...
whoever beats the other wins...

i should say this...this game supposed to be in c++ language...
so nothing too fancy...

there is also only one map, three options, play until death, until one of the army reach certain point, or withdraw...

I also didn't know how to create the function for attack and defense...

all I know is that it uses 1 + rand() % 6...to get the number...
but how do we know who wins the attack???

I'm sorry for having so many questions...I'm not an American, I never played this game in my entire life...

thanks for any opinions...

Well - google the rules then!

Here's a link that can help:
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=risk+rules

It tends to be when the attacker and defender square off and roll their dice (the number of dice are variable depending on the situation) The higher dice win.. ties to the defender.

The
1+ rand() % 6
will give you a random number between 1 and 6. Which will simulate the rolling of a die.

If all you need to do is simulate one battle within one territory, then you don't really need to know much about RISK. In RISK, when it is your turn you may choose to attack a territory that is adjacent to one of the territories you occupy. If you attack with one army, then both you and the defending player must roll one die one time. Whoever gets a higher number wins the battle. Pretty simple.

So to simulate one battle, you must generate two random numbers between 1 and 6. Whichever number is higher wins.

If you need help understanding random numbers, then check this out. Don't forget to seed the random numbers.

That is really all I can help without knowing any more of the details. If you need more help, don't hesitate to post more questions.

I hope that helps!
