I am using a server running Windows 2000 server and ApacheTomcat is used on this server to make a Java based help desk program run as part of our intranet. After making adjustements to our facility's DNS setting (we switched from NT to Active Directory), we rebooted our servers to make them recognize each other. Well, when our intranet server rebooted, we are unable to get Apache to run.

When I go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services and try to start it there, I get an error message that states "Could not start the Apache Tomcat service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."

Any suggestions??

Can you check the event viewer for application errors and paste any that show up for Apache/Tomcat. Also, check the apache logs for any errors.

NETLOGON Error Messages from Event Properties:

1st Error Message-

Attempt to update DNS Host Name of the computer object in Active Directory failed. The updated value was "value name". The following error occured: Access is denied

2nd Error Message-

Attempt to update Host Service Principal Names (SPNs) of the computer object in Active Directory failed. The updated values were (and it names the new value names). The following error occured: Access is denied.


Tomcat Error Messages from Event Properties:


1st Error Message-

Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the Apache Tomcat service to connect

2nd Error Message-

The Apache Tomcat service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

Is this a straight apache/tomcat install, or part of a package? i.e. ApacheTriad2 ??

I honestly don't know.... This was done about two years ago and everyone from our department that had anything to do with it are long gone.

Is there a way to find this information on my system?

So this is something that was running at some point in time and isn't working now? Hmmmmmmmmm I haven't had to troubleshoot an apache install on windows in AGES.

I'm not sure where you'd find if it was a package or not. Sounds like it's probably just a straight install.

Is there anything in the start menu to start it from the command line?! Or only as a service?
