Does anyone know of a system (or even have a project themselves) in which I would be able to register to test programs for bugs? Alpha-testing, I guess.
Would there be money in it? Any information about such websites etc.?
Thanks.

Look for any open-source projects, I'm sure they'd enjoy to have testers. But money involved? No. I doubt any public alpha/beta test offers money for the testers. You'd have to apply for a job in a big programming company which has its own department for testing.
Also games usually have alpha/beta testing phases which are either public or restricted to selected group of people. If it is restricted and you get in, you might get something nice at the end. But I doubt that nice is money, maybe a free licence for the game or something small.

If you do plan on alpha/beta testing open source projects, Sourceforge sometimes has positions available for software testers.
You wouldn't get paid though, if that's what you're looking for.

If you're using java then JUnit does a pretty solid job of testing your program with pretty much every type of data you can think of.
