What would you do/buy if you won the lottery? (Assume it's a big one)

I was just talking about what I would do in the job thread.....

I'd buy the world, I'm guessing I could get a good discount on the street.

Now I see you made this thread based off the other thread, so I should prob make a serious post.

I would buy a nice house, nothing too insane, I would have a nice truck, a nice car and I would dump money into like a consulting business or something of my own just to occupy time... I would always have the best technology, becuase I could buy new machines on a weekly basis. I would likely give some money away to some creditable fund.

The same thing I do now: not work.

I would probably buy a house in northern California right along the beach, overhaul my car (don't want a new one), and would spend my time writing music, including but not limited to orchestral arrangements. I'd take up the cello, perhaps the French horn, and buy a grand piano, to replace the electric one I have now. Oh, and I'd be damn sure to get a prenup before I got married. Damn california gold diggers. 10% would go to charity right off the bat, and more annually based on how much I spent that year.

If I had the money to do anything...I think I would go to school for a while. Somewhere like St. John's, where you simply read everything. Then I would spend some money on a personal gym so I could actually get in shape.

Basically my goal would to be a Renaissance Man - athlete, scholar, artist of all types.

I would contribute full-time to open source projects, finish my first book of poetry, write a book for O'Reilly, get in to robotics, compose an album or two of music, learn Latin, French, Russian, Japanese, and German, take up painting again, build a treehouse, tend bonsai, design IC chips, try out every trick in every issue of 2600 that wasn't illegal, immoral, or fattening, learn to cook authentic Thai food, get more involved with the space program, finish my doctorate, take up a second doctorate, read both volumes of the Norton Anthology of English Literature cover-to-cover, take up lost-wax casting again, and carpentry, get involved with medical technology research, get my pilot's and captain's license, volunteer for the WHO, and spend months at a time writing and meditating in retreat in a tiny French village called Vezelay.

In short, no -- if I no longer needed to work to earn money right away, I would be busier than ever.
