Netscape Problems/Site Check

Posted 28 June 2001 - 05:13 PM

Fellow Flashers,

I have come to wits end with this project.  It runs beautifully in IE and
even in some instances Netscape.  But for some reason the Netscape
Compatibility isn't consistant.  I have tested it on many machines with the
exact same OS, Browser version and connection speed and I get about 50%
compatibility.  Would you guys be as so kind as to check it for me and
respond with your results. (OS/Browser & Version/ Connection Speed)

For those of you that have the resources to check multiple applications,
please do.  I have posted the source FLAs in a zip file in the root of the
index page.

www.ceredigm.com/NCSolar/index.html
www.ceredigm.com/NCSolar/ncsc.zip   (5.9M)

This isn't an advanced programmed application.  It is just granular with
some tricky Level/Scene/Frame navigation.

The problems that I am having are at the beginning of the Flash animation.
When you launch the Electronic Brochure from the index page, it opens a new
window with a flash animation.  The Flash animation checks to see if level0
has been loaded before, if so..jump to Homepage Frame, if not, launch
intro.swf in level1. (this starts the Home preloader in level0 as well as
the preloader for level1)

For some reason, in some instances of Netscape, the percentage counter
doesn't work for the intro preloader and the status bar at the bottom of the
page loads 100% then says Done....and thats it.  It stops there and nothing
happens.  If you press "Skip Intro"  A blank page appears...nothing.

This has stumped many of my Flash brothers and I need to broaden my query.

Thank you in advance for any light you can shed on this issue.

Adam

I.E. 4.0 / Fine
I.E. 5.0 / Fine
I.E. 5.5 / Fine

Netscape 4.0 / Fine
Netscape 3.0 / Problems you described

I'm running a T1 at a throughput of..... heck, I don't recall how many mbps. heh I didn't bother with the new Netscape though, so you'll still need some input from them. Also another factor that may effect netscape is those annoying update patches they issue. Not a heck of a lot you can for compatability other than to remove the presentation from the Java window. Netscape always has had a hard time coping with dynamic scripting languages...
